How She Wears It with Jane Herman
How She Wears It with Jane Herman
Writer, Founder, and Designer of The Only Jane
Jane Herman makes everything she touches feel effortless, whether she’s creating the perfect jumpsuit or sharing her love of denim through her writing. Based in Los Angeles, Jane founded The Only Jane, a clothing line launched in March 2020 with a single standout piece: Jump One, a jumpsuit that fits beautifully and feels even better. Unsurprisingly, the fashion world has noticed that Vogue called The Only Jane “your new favorite jumpsuit label,” while The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and WWD featured her work. What started with one piece has since grown into a full line of jeans and jackets, all cut from top-quality denim.
If you've read her Substack newsletter, Jane on Jeans, you know Jane is more than a designer—she's a true denim authority. It's a passion that runs deep, starting in her hometown of Los Angeles, where she grew up working at her family's iconic Ron Herman stores (yes, she's one of three daughters of Ron Herman), selling jeans and t-shirts to a dedicated crowd of style lovers. On a personal note, I've known Jane (I call her Janey) since I was two year old. We all used to live in Santa Monica, blocks away from each other. We would go over to the Herman's house on the weekends, and they would come to ours. I vividly remember standing on corners saying "Bye Hermans" and their family saying "Bye Shermans." Many laughs and tears were shared amongst our family; if you cannot already tell, I just adore this woman, inside and out.
Jane spent years in New York as a fashion editor and writer, contributing to Vogue, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, and Travel + Leisure, while also bringing her creative eye to brands like GAP and Theory. In 2013, she co-founded JeanStories.com, a celebrated site dedicated to all things denim, proof that her love for the fabric is as enduring as the clothes themselves.
In 2018, becoming a mom inspired Jane to take on a new challenge: starting her own clothing company and designing a jumpsuit that would transcend trends and work for real life. The Only Jane is the result, a line that feels equal parts polished and practical, informed by everything she’s learned about great clothes and what it means to live in them.
